Direction and Cancellation Policy Information

While you are traveling up to Alexander's Slate Rock Ranch enjoy the beautiful scenery with the rolling hills, elk, deer, and turkey that the Black Hills has to offer.

Directions from Hill City, SD

Go west on the Deerfield Road (Forest Service Rd. 17) which starts at the Exxon Station, Heart of the Hills Convenience Store. You will come to a fork in the highway, turn left and continue to follow Deerfield Road. (For a total of 9 miles from Hill City to East Slate Road.) Then turn left onto East Slate Road (County 309) and follow for 4 1/2 miles. You will come to a "Y" intersection on the gravel road. Take a slight right onto Gillette Prairie Road and follow to the Alexander's Slate Rock Ranch (which is on your right) about 1/2 mile.

If we are gathering horses or cow, there could be a not for your on the ranch house door with the key and directions on how to get to your cabin!!! Please arrive before dark, unless previous arrangements have been made. Check-in time is at 4:00 p.m.

We offer corrals and hay for those bringing their horses. We don't charge for horses, but hay is available at $4.50 a bale. We will also help you plan your activities if you desire.


Cancellation Policy
  • Refunds will be made if cancellation is received 30 or more days prior to date of reservation.
  • Refunds will be made on shorter notice if rooms are re-rented for the same period.
  • Special cancellation policies apply during the Sturgis Rally Week.
  • Guests are responsible for payment of all nights reserved.
  • Payments will be taken in cash, check or credit cared (Visa or Master Card)
